Let’s face it, life is hard. We life in a society where enough is never enough. Even renowned billionaires are constantly signing new business deals to get more money right? What’s worse is that every single day there has to be a medical geek warning us about a potential illness outbreak. How many times have you had tests done just because you “suspected” it was one of those alarming illnesses? It’s time to take a chill pill and get it all under control: through better sleep health.
Sleep Over It
If you’re a busy person like I am, sleep is probably a term that doesn’t exist in your dictionary. But what you don’t know is that a good night sleep can help you come up with excellent decision-making strategies. Maybe falling asleep is the hard part, right? When you remember the pending projects, and meetings that need your best speech your brain instantly switches on.
Have you ever heard of sleep meditation? For starters, there are pre-recorded sleep meditation audios that will guide you through the meditation process. All you need is to close your eyes and play the recording as you follow along. Within a couple of minutes, you’ll be dead asleep. With time, you can practice the self-guided meditations as well and settle on what works best for you.
Do You Believe In Science?
Scientists have come to a conclusion that a good sleeping routine makes you smarter. And the best part is that it doesn’t have to be at night; even short naps during the day can be equally effective. This is according to a report by Live Science. So if you find yourself struggling to find answers, take a nap. You’ll wake up with a clearer view and better focus.
Back in college the top scoring students always seemed to have a grip on everything. I am sure most of us thought it was because they had lots of confidence. After all, they always emerged top even when they skipped class, right? I had a few such friends and while I was left burning out the midnight candle, they were snoring soundly. But now I know better.
The Power Of Positivity
Mahatma Gandhi once said, and I quote; “Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.”
Sometimes we worry over things that seem impossible to achieve. I won’t promise you that you will achieve them. No! Instead, crowd that negative energy with positive thinking. Go to bed happy and believe that you will achieve them just like Mahatma says. Never lose sleep over matters you feel incapable of solving; it’s that simple!
Sleep Is Your Ultimate Health Doctor
There is that peculiar symptom that gets you worried. Is it a persistent headache, joint pains, and fatigue all pointing to a possible gout attack? What if I told you that sleeping well every day is the key to enjoying great health? Well, don’t take my word for it. According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, proper sleeping routine improves your overall health (physical health, mental health, safety, and quality of life).
Poor sleep puts you at a higher risk of suffering from diabetes, kidney disease, high blood pressure, heart disease and even stroke. These are not just myths but facts that have been proven by research. Before you worry over your twitching eye, take charge of your health by sleeping well. That means 7-9 hours every day including the naps you take in between.
The Power Of Relaxation
Finally, after a busy day, learn to relax. Love yourself and be selfish for once. It doesn’t involve much, just lock yourself up for a few minutes with a glass of wine or your favorite music and think of nothing.
I prefer winding down in my bathtub just before I got to sleep. It calms me down and puts me into sleep mode instantly. This is not the time to worry about what went wrong during the day. Instead, focus on what you achieved. It’s OK to fantasize a little during this time. After all, there is no genie around reading your mind (well, maybe there is but who cares?)
The Bottom Line
Even the greatest inventors of all time had something to worry about at any given time. Your problems will not simply go away. Learn to let go and have a little fun. But most importantly, never compromise your sleep trying to make that extra coin or trying to be more perfect. Sooner or later you’ll realize that happiness comes first. And happiness does not co-exist with worry. You have to choose one over the other.
