Over the past few years, Kombucha has hit the wellness scene in a tremendous way. As a health obsessed foodie I noticed it in recipes, blogs, health fairs, my favorite organic lunch spots, and even my go-to fitness studio. Now talk about a brand…I mean there are so many varieties all over the globe, putting their personal stamp on FERMENTED TEA. Meanwhile, I am still in the MATCHA craze, drinking green lattes and eating green cookies. My mind is spinning and I want to know more. This leads me to my next question, which I am sure has crossed your mind, “is KOMBUCHA really good for you?”
“Since there are so many Kombucha brands in the market, I decided to try as many I could to get an understanding of what I liked, or if I liked Kombucha at all”
Kombucha preparation goes a little something like this: the tea is made by adding a culture of bacteria and yeast to a solution of tea, sugar, and sometimes fruit juice or other flavorings.
So, people that know me know I don’t like to guess. I like to present the facts and my research uncovered some known health benefits of Kombucha. Tea versions that are raw or unpasteurized, contain high concentrations of probiotics, which stimulates good gut bacteria, just like in yogurt. So we can look forward to better digestion and less bloating! It will also promote a stronger immune function and overall health.

Since there are so many Kombucha brands in the market, I decided to try as many I could to get an understanding of what I liked, or if I liked Kombucha at all. I must be honest, I found that finding a Kombucha brand that I enjoyed was difficult. There were many brands that were too acidic for my palate and it made me wonder if Kombucha was a product I would eventually enjoy. Was it an acquired taste?
After much research in Philadelphia, I found Inspired Brews, a local kombucha company and was immediately blown away by the unique taste and bright flavors. The taste of the brews was simply AMAZING. To top it all off as I sipped on my beverage, I took in the brand and the name and it set off so much synergy! “Inspired” is such a positive word and I had to know more about the company behind this great tasting brew.
I sat down with Inspired Brews “brewmaster” Jessa Stevens who shared the company’s passion for making a difference in the community. Inspired brews sources their ingredients locally, literally around the corner sometimes. Inspiration and positive living starts in the community, and it is so refreshing to see Inspired Brews taking the lead on that as a Philadelphia small business. Inspired Brews can be found in stores, coffee shops, juice cafes and many more in the Philadelphia area.
“We want to reach people who normally wouldn’t be exposed to our product,” says Stevens. “Collaboration and partnership means a lot to us”
I had the opportunity to taste some of their best brews, but my favorites by far were, Rooted and Rose Golden. Inspired Brews teamed up with Philly Foodworks to produce this love in a bottle from local farms. In each sip you can appreciate the locally sourced ingredients, beets and carrots. Rose Golden brew, is not only bursting with freshness, it gives me crazy good vibes based on its inspiration. Inspired Brews teamed up with The Gravy, a food meets hiphop culture blog, to create a brew that was inspired by song, “Rose Golden” by Kid Cudi. With ingredients like, golden raisin and roses, Rose Golden had me at hello!
The masterminds behind Inspired Brews are clearly no stranger to taking risks, putting the community first, and cultivating positive vibes.
