TELL US ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS/PASSION PROJECT?
I lead a life coaching business where I use coaching, leadership, Positive Psychology and spiritual tools to help others make peace with their past, find answers in the present and gain clarity for the future. I work with people one-on-one and also in class settings through my signature course Mindful Motivation.
My passion project is my Q&A Lifestyle column "Hey Holl" where I answer questions about "life stuff" and offer tips/ideas/reflections/inspirations on the topic that was asked about. Writing has always been my primary passion and it's my dream to be an author. So this column keeps my inner-Carrie Bradshaw happy and also builds the foundation that's necessary to be a successful author.
NAME 3 POSITIVE THINGS YOU DO EACH DAY AND WHY?
1. Meditation - I do a Kundalini Yoga meditation every day (it changes depending on what my 40-day sadhana is). Honestly, I have no idea how I used to live without meditation. This practice helps me heal and focus - not to mention have way more epiphanies!
2. Gratitude Lists - I write a gratitude list every single day either in my Notes app or in my Desire Map planner. It's a great practice to remind me that I'm already surrounded by abundance and love. I also like to end my day with a "Stuff that Went Right Today" list... especially on stressful or difficult days.
3. Giving Back - It may be a tip at Chipotle or time spent having small talk with the girl who's sampling granola at Whole Foods. I was once the girl working at the restaurant and also demo-ing nut bars, and I know it can be tedious work that leads to unfulfilling days. I try to do anything I can to elevate someone's moment, even if it's just a smile or a $1 in the tip cup.
YOU ARE A NEW ADDITION TO THE CRAYON BOX. WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE AND WHY?
I would definitely be yellow! Yellow is not only bright, sunny and vibrant, it's also the color of the Manipura Chakra. This is the third wheel of energy located at our navel and it's symbolic of our self-identity and personal power. It helps us channel grit, discipline and commitment. The element of this chakra is fire and I'm also kind of a pyro - I like to play with fire, energetic fire included! 0:)
WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO LIVE A MORE POSITIVE LIFE?
The times and events of our world inspires me to live more positively. We see so much negativity being aired on our media channels and Facebook threads. I truly believe chaos does lead to new order. The disorder that we are seeing is summoning more positive leaders to step out of their comfort zones and it's also awakening many people to do more than just go through the motions.
I believe every single one of us can help change the world through our own connections, conversations, reactions and interactions. All of us have our own ripple effect and the women of The Positivity Charge are leaders in that wave of change, whether they know it or not! A shift in our collective consciousness happens person by person, one by one. Each time we elevate someone whether that's by acknowledging their existence with a passing wave or letting them over on the highway - it all makes a difference!
WHAT DO YOU WORK TOWARD IN YOUR FREE TIME? AT WORK?
In my free time I love to go to Barre classes and run. My relationship with my physical body has always been a challenge for me, so during my free time I try to experiment with ways that will help me feel good about my physical self.
At work, I'm currently working toward learning more about Leadership. I'm working through a leadership training program through University of Michigan and that has been a really awesome experience. I love working with Leaders, not just of business, but leaders who are trailblazers with a mission and determined to create positive change in our world.
WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT POSITIVE QUOTE OR MANTRA?
Wahe Guru! In Kundalini Yoga, "wahe guru" celebrates light and positivity. It's a very high vibe, joyful mantra. It's kind of like saying "Hallelujah" or "Praise the Lord!" Wahe basically means Wonderful! And Guru means "bringing the dark into the light" or in this case, it represents God or our divine teacher, the Universe.
CAN YOU SHARE AN EXPERIENCE YOU'VE HAD WHERE YOU OBSERVED POSITIVE THINKING PROFOUNDLY IMPACTING YOUR LIFE?
Positive thinking has profoundly impacted my entire life! I have always chosen to find the light even during the darkest times of my life. Without positivity, I wouldn't have been able to go on. A specific example would be my experience with depression. Positive thinking helped me have faith that I would find practices that would lead to true healing. I have to keep up with positive thinking every single day because I've learned it takes work, maintenance and a ton of self-love to keep a healthy and happy mind, body and soul.
