2017 is coming to an end and so many of us are crazy excited to see 2018. We are making resolutions, new plans to 2018 “our year”, and reciting to ourselves, “New year, new me”. But how many of us have actually taken the time to learn from 2017 before we set up for 2018? Learning from the past is such an important step to making an effective plan for the future. There a few ways to ensure you learn from 2017.
Outline 2017’s Monumental Moments
Take some time to write down some of the highs and lows of 2017. Maybe even create it like an outline to provide bullet point notes about how you felt, analyze your actions, and whether or not you were true to yourself in that moment. Investigate what went right or wrong in these moments. This can help break down the “big picture” of 2017, so you can see each monumental moment with clarity.
Confide In A Close Friend or Family Member
If you have a very close friend or family member that always keeps it real with you, this is the time to have a little heart to heart. Share your thoughts about 2017 and ask for their feedback. We all have blind spots and sometimes the people closest to us have a more clear sight of our shortcomings.
Caution: make sure you confide in someone who keeps it real for your benefit and NOT for their ego.
It’s time to come to peace with 2017. Preparing for 2018 is so exciting and appealing, but if you haven’t come to peace with 2017, ill feelings (if any) about 2017 will linger into the new year. Who wants that? Certainly not me! Accept and embrace where you are now and allow that peace to prepare you for 2018.
The new year is approaching quickly, but you still have time to learn from 2017. Every year we are given the opportunity to learn, grow, and become a better version of ourselves. This is our yearly investment. Are you ready to invest this New Years?
